When a memecoin sets the stock price

Robinhood Chain went live on 1 July 2026 to put real shares on a blockchain. Memecoins took it over, and they trade against the shares rather than against ether. Over the weekend of 29 to 31 August that arrangement pulled two stock tokens away from the companies they track. Both are back at their share prices now. The same thing brought them back, and it could only happen once the market opened.

Both stocks were closed for the same weekend and both tokens were cornered by a memecoin. What separates them is on the HIMS page. The hourly highs were 72.3× for AMC and 4.25× for HIMS.

The supply watch · the report’s open question, read live

A dislocated stock token returns to its share price when the issuer mints more of it. Through the weekend HIMS was minted and AMC was not, and AMC held its premium until Monday. Both have since been minted heavily. The table reads the supply from the chain on every visit, against the pre-open baseline of 31 August.

A memecoin on this chain is bought with a stock token, so every purchase locks another share into a pool. The tokenized supply of a company runs to a few thousand units, which makes it cheap to absorb almost all of it. When that happens on a Saturday, nobody can correct the price, because correcting it means issuing new tokens and issuing new tokens means buying real shares from an exchange that is shut. Across 484 pools on three stocks, AMC does most of its trading against memecoins and HIMS does most of its against a dollar stablecoin. That is the difference the weekend exposed.
